About

Artist Bio

Alyssa Chi is a fine artist based in Coppell, TX where she lives and works from her home studio. She has deep roots in the NTX region where she was born and raised. She earned her BFA with a Drawing and Painting Concentration from the University of North Texas, allowing her to continue to build community in the DFW area. After graduating she worked briefly at The McKinney Avenue Contemporary as Development Manager, but ultimately quit her professional job to pursue a practice of both the domestic and fine arts. Over the last decade she has developed a way of painting that serves as a means of offloading intense emotions and then reconciling them as she later engages her prefrontal cortex. Resolving unruly mark-making into balanced, cohesive compositions as an approach to painting evolved out of necessity. For her, painting is truly a life or death venture. If these paintings did not exist, she would not either. They will continue to be made regardless of market value. Nonetheless, most of her works are available for purchase. Feel free to use the contact form for more information.

Artist Statement

My paintings are created without a predetermined end point, allowing the necessary expressive freedom to externalize the fullness of faced feelings. Through line and color I strive to create balanced compositions, bringing to myself grounding and a sense of calm. Using chromatic transitions between colors is my current obsession and I find it serves as a satisfying metaphor for bridging the gaps in otherwise binary thinking. It is an outer reflection of what I imagine it looks like to move into quantum perspectives as I consider viewpoints outside of either/or. A painting is finished when I feel it has achieved the balance and sense of completeness I seek.
